Moving a cut of autoracks at Union Pacific’s Dolores Yard, Pacific Harbor Line’s SD18 43 still wears the colors of its third owner, Chicago & North Western. Built by EMD in November 1959 as Southern Railway SD24 2517 (with a high short hood), this engine was later renumbered SOU 6333. Eventually sold to Precision National Corporation, it was rebuilt with a low nose and had the dynamic brakes removed, and it became PNC 1833. When C&NW was in need of some power, it picked this engine up and renumbered it CNW 6636. It then ended up on the Ohio Central as OHCR 6636 before coming west to join the PHL’s growing roster of diesels. (Carson, California – April 26, 2007)
