A 1921-built product of the American Locomotive Company, UP 2564, a 2-8-2 "Mikado," was originally built for the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad. It was traded to the Oregon Shortline Railroad (controlled by the UP) in 1923 and operated in long -haul freight and local passenger service throughout Idaho and northern Utah until 1955. The locomotive was then retired and eventually donated to the City of Oro Grande in 1959 where it was put on public display in a park. The locomotive remained there for 37 years, when it's new home - the Orange Empire Railroad Museum - called for its movement to Perris. The locomotive and tender were carefully loaded onto a pair of flatcars and moved to the museum grounds where they have remained on display since. The Southern California Railway Museum hopes to one day return the 2-8-2 to operational condition.
