From Boston to Albany on the B&A. Amtrak 449 (Lake Shore Limited, AMTK 105 P42DC leading) crosses Flints Crossing Road on the evening of Saturday, September 19, 2020, it will also cross from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts to Canaan, New York. The vintage B&A/New York Central sign on the engineers’ side says “MASS” to indicate to an eastbound that it is entering MA, while this westbound train has just passed the “NY” on the other side.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
