"Avelia Markers at Penn"
Amtrak's Alstom Avelia Liberty (Acela 21) takes a quick rest at New York's Pennsylvania Station before continuing east for testing. The trainset made it's first run to New York City on the night of September 24th, 2020 while heading towards GATE Interlocking in Queens on the Northeast Corridor.
GATE Interlocking is where the overhead electric catenary system changes from 12kV/25Hz to 12.5kV/60Hz. This test run was to ensure the onboard systems on the powercars seamlessly changed over between the two systems.
