On her way to "Pumpkinville." A farmer's daughter, taking her family's tractor back to the barn, exchanges waves with the fireman on Norfolk & Western's J-Class Locomotive #611 as it flies over the Pumpkinville Turnpike on its way to Strasburg Station with a freight consist. This little scene was staged by Peter Lerro, of Lerro Productions, as one of many set-ups for photographers attending the "Reunion of Steam" event in October of 2019, featuring 611, and the Strasburg Rail Road's own Norfolk & Western M-Class #475. Firing the 611 this morning is none other than Cheri George, who has been associated with this locomotive for several decades. She was one of the principals in the "Fire Up 611" group, which did the fund-raising to pull the engine out of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, and return it to full operation in 2015.
