Remarks & Notes
Tired Of Waiting? Construction for the replacement of NJ Transit Raritan Bay Draw Bridge (River Draw) from South Amboy to Perth Amboy, NJ is well underway, as seen on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 12, 2021. The inner tubes in the foreground are attached to the temporary causeway being built as part of the project. This span, built in 1908 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, suffered significant damage during Hurricane Sandy, including being hit by two tugboats. Its replacement, slated to completion in 2026, is largely funded by a federal grant of $446 million. The new bridge will feature a 110 foot vertical lift span, as opposed to the current swing bridge design. In an unusual daylight move, Conrail Shared Assets JR5 is seen crossing the bridge with CSX 8029 (née-LN 8029, SD40-2) and 8136 (née-LN 8136, SD40-2) geographically north with a long train of cars headed from Browns Yard in Sayreville, NJ to Oak Island Yard in Newark, NJ.
