'Free State magic!'
A century old double-header between Sandstone Estate's class NG 10 (No.61) and NGG 11 (No.52) at the crack of dawn; what a sight for the year 2019!
No.61 was built by the American Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916, and placed into service on the Avontuur Branch in the Eastern Cape soon after.
Behind No.61, NGG 11 No.52 was designed by 'Beyer, Peacock and Company' in 1914, but owing to the 'Great War,' they could only be delivered in 1919 and then assembled in Uitenhage. She too would be placed into service on the Avontuur Branchline in 1920.
A century later, No.61 and 52 have a new lease on life on the Sandstone Estate's Railroad in the Eastern Free State!
