Empty coal train 855 heads back to the mines of West Virginia as it splits the intermediate signals at Milepost 34 on the Sandusky District just south of Waldo. Leading the train is a standard cab Dash 9, a unique unit built exclusively for Norfolk Southern. Sadly, all have since been converted to AC44C6Ms, resembling a standard GE widecab. About 2 and half years after this photo, 8881 would be rebuilt into NS 4053. It still lives on, but some of the charm is definitely lost.
