A Monroe, MI, empty coal train slow rolls thru Kewanee waiting on a crossover light behind Amtrak's #3 at West Kewanee. The train was held here for both westbound Amtrak's (5/3) that were about 50" apart. The old building to the left is the only thing left of the Kewanee Boiler Plant that was demolished in 2018. The old office building was be left because it was the only building with extensive asbestos remediation needed that the demolition company didn't want to mess with. The plant was open 1868 and closed in 2002, another company used the plant til 2017, which then it was closed and never opened again. At its height, in the early 1900's, the plant employed over 4,000 people.
