BNSF Railway train Q-NYCLAC of late has often had either solid Norfolk Southern power, or mixed NS/BNSF power with the NS units on the point. Such was the case again as this New York to Los Angeles intermodal train passes through Fullerton Junction behind NS ES44AC 8176 and AC44C6M 4027 (ex-NS Dash 9-40C 8877). Here at Fullerton Junction, BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub become triple-track for much of the rest of the journey to Los Angeles. These three lines split into two double-track lines east of here, with Metrolink’s Orange Sub splitting off here for Oceanside (and beyond to San Diego). The high green signal on the right indicates that Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 580, heading to San Diego, is due soon. (Fullerton, California – February 23, 2021)
