Remarks & Notes |
One of the more unusual sights on the Strasburg Rail Road was the PRR’s 1940’s re-creation of predecessor Camden & Amboy’s John Bull. The original was donated to the Smithsonian in 1876, so the Pennsylvania built a replica for publicity purposes soon after World War II. It became part of the PRR collection that was the genesis of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Restored to operable status in 1983, it is seen here soon after its restoration with the original 1855 Cumberland & Pennsylvania baggage-coach making short-distance excursions at Strasburg. Almost as unusual is the eastward-facing direction of the John Bull, which is one of the few times a locomotive on the Strasburg did not face west.
