Red and silver Santa Fe locomotives are teaming at the railroad’s servicing facility at Corwith Yard in Chicago, Illinois, on June 2, 1996. General Electric B40-8W Nos. 500 and 521 share track space with EMD GP60M No. 142 and SD75M Nos. 232 and 246. Even though the Santa Fe and Burlington Northern were merged the year before with the formation of a holding company on September 22, 1995, the operating railroads formally merged into the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway on December 31, 1996, and scenes like this would soon become a rarity.
