Twenty minutes behind a westbound with Kansas City Southern power on it, is BNSF train Q-NYCLAC6-29L (Guaranteed Service Intermodal; New York NY to Los Angeles CA) which, until it got to Barstow, had an all-Norfolk Southern set of power. BNSF must have determined that it should have one more to get over Cajon Pass and added BNSF ET44C4 3992 to assist NS ES44AC 8050 and NS Dash 9-40CW 9834. This was a disappointment, as solid sets of off-line power on the BNSF are not as common as having a home-road engine up front. This 81 car, 3693 ton, 7752-foot train is passing milepost 158 on BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub, so it has just 13 miles to go in its cross-country (cross-continent!) trip.
