Some of the day’s last sunlight tickles high points of the landscape surrounding Azure, Colorado, on Union Pacific’s Moffat Tunnel Subdivision on November 15, 2021, as an eastbound UP coal load snakes through the shadows along the Colorado River. The train is led by Kansas City Southern GE ES44AC No. 4891, but that third UP motor is smoking it up pretty good, making it easier to see the train’s progress through the darkening scenery.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
