In 1991, DB introduced the first generation Intercity Express train. The ICE 1 consists of two power cars and 12 intermediate cars. After receiving refurbishment in 2005, some trains were refurbished for the second time again in recent years. The works include shortening formation and traction equipment upgrade. These trains will extend their service life until 2030.
