As Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 765 speeds by at 70 miles per hour, heading from San Diego to Goleta, the cormorants on the power lines pay it no mind. This could be because the 50 or so passenger trains per day (20 Surfliners and 30 Coaster commuter trains [20 Coasters on weekends]) have made them used to the rush of metal passing by. Most of the San Diego Sub runs along the Pacific Ocean, and often there are lagoons on the other side of the train (in this case, the San Elijo Lagoon), making for a very pleasant train trip. CDTX SC-44 2114 has another 215 miles ahead until it reaches its destination. (Encinitas, California – February 13, 2022)
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
