The Venice, IL, to Kansas City, MO, freight train has just backed out of the siding at East Blackburn after meeting their counterpart. The crew made an unusual move so the conductor could lined the switch back behind them for the eastbound they were meeting. The eastbound was over 12,000 feet long and this area is anything but flat. Guessing that helped the cause out, and instead of walking up to the headend, they just shoved out behind the eastbound. This is the KCS Mexico Sub, old Gateway Western trackage. Blackburn was developed in 1880 when the railroad was extended through here.
