A climb up a tall bluff called Trempealeau Mountain just north of Trempealeau, Wisconsin, yields this vista of the Upper Mississippi River valley and part of Burlington Northern’s long causeway just east of Winona, Minnesota. On the morning of June 15, 1996, an eastbound Canadian National train, powered by a trio of EMD SD70I locomotives, slices its way over the impressive route on the Wisconsin side of the river.
