Remarks & Notes
Leaving quarters. With cylinder cocks open, the replica Lincoln Funeral Train at Stone Gables Estate prepares to leave its train shed at the west end of the line, on April 22, 2022, the 157th anniversary of the day that Abraham Lincoln's Funeral Train passed through this very spot.

One highlight of the train rides offered at this re-enactment event was a 20 minute stop at this 250 foot-long shed, the westernmost portion of which is configured as a museum to the Lincoln Funeral Train. Indeed, the walls of the shed are festooned with historic photos and other exhibits, documenting Lincoln's final train ride from Washington DC, to the place of his interment in Springfield, IL. Although passengers are not normally allowed to ride on the replica Presidential Car, they are allowed to walk through it during this time, to see the interior of what was the "Air Force One" of its time. The culmination of that walk-through is a visit to the aft compartment, where a replica of Lincoln's flower-covered coffin sits on a catafalque, guarded by a Federal Soldier.
