EMD’s SD90MAC-H locomotives head through Leyden, Colorado, for some testing at Plainview on January 30, 1998. Leading is EMD No. 8504 that is painted in a special scheme for EMD’s 75th anniversary. The other three SD90MAC-Hs accompanying No. 8504 are fully-painted for Union Pacific, Nos. 8505, 8502 and 8503. After some stationary trials at Plainview and East Portal, the four will be further appraised on tonnage between Denver and the Moffat Tunnel. Despite all the preproduction testing, the SD90MAC-Hs were plagued with problems and frequently sidelined, and EMD eventually shelved the 265H and 6,000 hp locomotive.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
