Remarks & Notes |
VANCOUVER WA Oct 2 1978 — Columbia Industrial Park 80-ton Whitcomb 101 (built in July 1944) awaits switching duties as Burlington Northern cabooses roll east in the background. It started life at the Navy Ammunition Depot in McAlester OK. It then went through several transactions. In September 1947 it served with Weyerhaeuser in Longview WA as 112 and later 304. It was then sold to Longview Fibre Company in Longview as 7011. In March 1966 it was sold to dealer D.C. Southland, sold to Vinnell Construction Company in Starbuck WA, sold to Lampson Railroad Contractors in Pasco WA and finally acquired in 1973 by Columbia Industrial Park as 101. The facility has changed its name to Columbia Business Center and I saw the locomotive being scrapped on a delivery track at near Thompson Metal Fab. around 2010. Dummy that I am I didn’t get a photo of the scrapping and don’t remember the actual date. Corrections welcome. My photo. |
