The day started off with 2½-inches of rain, but by 16:30 (4:30 pm) the precipitation had ceased long enough ago that the sun had come out by the time Metrolink train 609 rolled past Depot Park and stopped at the former Santa Fe Station in the city of Orange. This train, bound for Los Angeles, originated in Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo rather than Oceanside due to unstable earth along the beach in San Clemente, and the stabilization effort will not be completed until February.
