Metro-North Railroad M3A no. 8104 (Budd, 1984-1986) is the first car on a Harlem Line train waiting to depart Grand Central Terminal on the afternoon of March 31, 2022. I was pleasantly surprised to find this old beast, as the M3/M3A "Metropolitans," as Budd branded them, are becoming few on their respective railroads.
With three lines radiating north out of Grand Central Terminal plus service to Port Jervis on the former Erie, Metro North covers a wide swatch of New York's northern suburbs with varying terrains.
