| I would say that the wildfire smoke was bad that season, but it was my first visit. For years I had wanted to photograph the MRL in "Big Sky Country" and now that I had finally made it here I was surprised to not be able to even see the sky. I sat atop Bozeman tunnel watching a hopper train claw its way up and the exhaust quickly became indiscernible from the haze. The skies were yellow, your eyes watered and every time the wind picked up your thoughts turned to concern of whether you were up wind or down wind of one of the 19 different uncontained active wildfires at the time.
