Willow Springs, Illinois, almost looks rural in this view of a Santa Fe freight heading west on March 11, 1989. Later, 186 acres of this location will be developed into an important intermodal yard, with United Parcel Service (UPS) also constructing a massive Chicago hub here, fully utilizing the new yard. Leading the train is AT&SF EMD GP38-2 No. 2374, former TP&W No. 2005, now painted in the short-lived SPSF “Kodachrome” merger colors.
