Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 583 passes through Fullerton on Track 2 in order to avoid a police investigation of a fatal train/trespasser strike two miles ahead at Basta. This train arrived from San Diego on Track 1, in the foreground, to load and unload passengers. It then backed to Fullerton Junction, just on the other side of the signals in the distance, and crossed over to Track 2 to depart. AMTK NPCU (or "Cabbage") 90208, formerly Amtrak F40PH 208 (converted to a combination cab car/baggage car), leads this train, which consists of a mix of Amfleet and Horizon cars, with AMTK F59PHI 854 providing the power from the rear as the train is in "push mode" (not to be confused with 80s New Wave group "Depeche Mode"). Over on Track 3 is an eastbound Metrolink train. (Fullerton, California – April 26, 2013)
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
