Having just been unveiled for a handful of employees and invited guests, Reading & Northern SD40-2 no. 1983 poses outside of the West Cressona paint and restoration shop. The 1983 is the second of two 40th anniversary locomotives the Reading & Northern unveiled in 2023. The 1983 harkens back to the original paint scheme applied to Blue Mountain & Reading locomotives 413, 600, and 601 in the mid 1980s. The paint scheme was originally described as being "the color of Blue Mountain in the distance", which definitely will make you pay attention to the local Blue Mountain in the evenings to see the inspiration for "Blue Mountain Blue".
