Remarks & Notes |
The 25 kilometer long former service railroad of the International Rhine Regulation (IRR) with 75 cm track gauge and electrified with 750 V direct current since 1946, has been operated by the "Rhein-Schauen" (Rheinbähnle) association from the Lustenau/Austria depot since 2006. The 0-4-0 T steam locomotive # 6 "St.Gallen/Widnau", built by Jung in Germany in 1910 pulls the last passenger train over the 260 meter long Wiesenrain road/rail Rhine bridge between Widnau/Switzerland and Lustenau/Austria. The bridge will be lifted about 1 meter for flood protection and there will be no track longer. The locomotive ia adorned with the flags of Austria and Switzerland, mourning floor and the chalk inscription: Letzte Fahrt A-CH 25.11.23. The railroad was operated by the IRR from 1895 to 2006, mainly for the transportation of stones from the Kadelberg quarry towards Lake Constance for the construction of dams. |
