The austrian railways ÖBB ordered 18 new fire fighting and rescue trains from StadlerRail for the infrastructure department. The first built train X122 # 001 (99 81 9173 007-1) is on a test run 97250 from Romanshorn to Sulgen, running through Amriswil in diesel mode. The power of this 3 car "ServiceJet" is 4000 Hp from the overhead wire (15000 V 16,7 Hz AC), 1060 Hp from diesel motors or 280 kW from a battery, maximum velociity is 160 km/h. In the middle car are up to 40'000 liter water. There are 4 jet fans on the roof to protect the emergency services and the Servicejet against smoke and high temperatures. A filter system cleans the air and overpressure prevents smoke from entering. This so-called protective ventilation ensures a protected interior for the operating personnel, the emergency services and the people being evacuated. Thermal imaging cameras also help to better identify people in a smoky environment. However, this vehicle is not only optimally equipped for use in the event of a fire, but also for other applications. It has enough power to tow trains of up to 2,000 tons - even without an overhead line - or can be used as a "charger" to supply a defective train with power. The service jet is also intended for maintenance work during daily operations. Maintenance teams and materials are transported to the cross passages in the tunnels for scheduled maintenance and inspection work. This ensures optimum handling of the vehicle by the operating personnel in addition to the standard scheduled training sessions.
