Remarks & Notes |
NORMAN OK June 3 1978 — Santa Fe GP39-2 3631 overtakes train 563 lead by GP38 3556 at the north end of the passing siding in north Norman. I never thought I would miss B-truck mainline diesels so much. Visible in the foreground is all that remains of the lead to the former U.S. Naval Training Air Station. At the time of this photo the facility known as North Base and many original buildings were still standing and several were in use. EMD built the 3631 (s/n 74664-15) and delivered it in February 1975 in blue body with yellow warbonnet livery. In August 1986 the Cleburne TX Shops rebuilt the unit as a GP39-2u and out-shopped it in blue body with yellow warbonnet. On Sept 22 1995 it was transferred to BNSF as part of the merger. On Feb 9 2000 it was renumbered BNSF 2769 still in yellow warbonnet. It was patched with a small BNSF below the road number on the cab sides. I did find a photo taken Jan 25 2023 of the unit in BNSF livery with the BNSF swoosh on the sides. My photo. |
