After setting out a string of tank cars in the town of Yuma, BNSF local L-PWR6131-11I continues its westward journey with 33 cars behind "GP39-3" 2548 (built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in March 1963 as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe GP30 1221, which was later renumbered ATSF 3221 and, later still, to ATSF 2721, later gaining a new identity through the merger with the BN as Burlington Northern Santa Fe 2431 and, after receiving a new cab, BNSF 2548) and SD40-2 1958 (also build by EMD, but in March 1972 as Colorado & Southern 903, which parent Burlington Northern later renumbered BN 6351, and later became BNSF 6377 thanks to the previously mentioned merger). This is the third old GP30 spotted this day – an improvement over the seemingly endless parade to GE GEVOs! And with temperatures in the high 90ºs this day, I am sure the crew has the 2548's air conditioners cranked up! (Yuma, Colorado – July 11, 2024)
