Remarks & Notes |
Cogwheel locomotive He 2/2 # 18 "Gündlischwand" of the Schynige Platte Bahn (SPB) is running down as first train 640 from the Schynige Platte to Wilderswil, above Breitlauenen. The locomotive was built in 1910 by SLM and Alioth for the Wengernalpbahn as # 58 and came to the SPB in 1963. When travelling downhill, the SPB locomotives have the pantograph lowered to minimize wear on the contact strips and contact wire. The heat from the resistors of the electric brake is released into the mountain air. Cab windows and doors and a flap on the side are open for better heat dissipation. The small freight car OM # 73 of 1893 is loaded with empty containers from the restaurant on the mountain top. The pantograph on one of the passenger cars serves for scratching ice from the overhaed wire in winter conditions. The railway is not operating in the real wintertime. Down in the valley you can see Unterseen and part of Interlaken. |
