Remarks & Notes
Built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in May 1921 as Northeast Oklahoma Railroad 2, this 50-Ton Steeplecab electric locomotive was later owned by Cedar Rapids and Iowa City as their number 40. It passed along to the Kansas City, Kaw Valley & Western (as KVW 505) before eventually heading to Northern Iowa, becoming Iowa Traction 51. ITR later morphed into Iowa Traction Railway Company, and thus its current status as IATR 51, still operating 103 years after it first entered service. So, evidence that electric power is better than internal combustion? (Mason City, Iowa – July 19, 2024)
