Remarks & Notes |
Train 642 of the Schynige Platte Bahn from the top of the mountain back to Wilderswil circulated with two sections. Cogwheel locomotive He 2/2 # 20 "Gsteigwiler", built in 1911 by SLM and Alioth as # 60 for the Wengernalpbahn and transfered in 1970 to the SPB, is running down above Breitlauenen as first section. When travelling downhill, the SPB locomotives have the pantograph lowered to minimize wear on the contact strips and contact wire. The heat from the resistors of the electric brake is released into the mountain air. Cab windows and doors and a flap on the side are open for better heat dissipation. The pantograph on one of the passenger cars serves for scratching ice from the overhaed wire in winter conditions. The railway is not operating in the real wintertime. |
