Conrail FL9 #5039, wearing MTA's blue and yellow scheme that dated to Penn Central days, brings train 8836 south from Poughkeepsie. The train was made up of two coaches another FL9 (also in the blue and yellow scheme, but still lettered for Penn Central). I'm fairly certain that this was a patch job, replacing the PC with a simple CR. The yellow noses on these faded fast and this one looks a few years into its yellow at least. At the time of this photo I was fanning with two new friends who were intent on getting as many Amtrak Es on the Hudson Line as possible (as for some no longer remembered reason, Es had replaced the brand new Rohr Turboliners for a stretch). The FL9s were simply a nice train to shoot between Amtraks. Wish I'd gotten more of them. (July 1, 1978, Poughkeepsie, NY)
