Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway train 891, the hot westbound piggyback Super C, approaches the Alondra Boulevard grade crossing as it begins its journey from Los Angeles; Hobart yard to Chicago IL. Everything except Amtrak gets out of the way for this train, the hottest freight on the system. A quartet of three-year-old SD45-2s, with Bicentennial 5702 on the point, powers this train, providing 14,400-horsepower for a relatively short train ... but the customers are paying extra for fast, dependable service moving their trailers at passenger train speeds.
