Metro-North Railroad's Harlem-125th Street Station in Manhattan is a very busy station. Throughout the day, it is very common to see two or three trains arriving and departing at the same time, as seen here.
On the left, and Track 3, an outbound Connecticut DOT commuter train has climbed out of the tunnel it traversed since departing Grand Central Terminal a few miles ago. CDOT P32AC-DM, a dual mode (diesel power or third-rail electric power) locomotive, wearing New Haven Railroad colors, honoring processor railroad New Haven. This scheme, commonly known as the McGinnis scheme, was in use from the mid-1950s. This outbound train is likely heading for New Haven CT.
Meanwhile, over on Track 4, MNCW P32AC-DM 222 shoves an inbound train toward the tunnel into Grand Central Terminal. In early 2025, this locomotive would be repainted into an earlier New Haven paint scheme of Pullman Green and Imitation Gold.
With three lines radiating north out of Grand Central Terminal plus service to Port Jervis on the former Erie, Metro North covers a wide swatch of New York's northern suburbs with varying terrains.
