Passing through the wide-open Mojave Desert is BNSF railway train Q-ATGLAC7-24V approaches the yard in Barstow, where the power will most likely get refueled as the crew is relieved with a fresh crew to take this train, which originated in Atlanta, Georgia, the final 150 miles to Los Angeles, California. A pair of Dash 9-44CWs diesels is powering this train: BNSF 4542 and 787, built two years apart (4542 in September 1999 and 787 in September 1997). Looking at all these containers makes one realize just how many trucks are not spewing fumes along our Interstate highways, as railroads are much more fuel efficient and exponentially cleaner to operate. Just counting the container visible here, this train is easily replacing 150 big rigs! (Barstow, California – March 1, 2025)
