Union Pacific train ZLCAI 14 (Expedited Intermodal; Los Angeles CA to Atlanta Intermodal GA) slows to a crawl as it passes the old Southern Pacific station (still a stop on Amtrak’s Sunset Limited) because about half the crossing gates at this crossing, Palomares Street, were not working, so the train had to stop to allow the conductor to get off and drop a pair of fusees (essentially highway flares) in the street before the train could proceed. The power for this train is a trio of GE ES44ACs: UP 7462 and 5492 on the headend, and 7875 as the rear DPU. (Pomona, California – April 14, 2012)
