Interesting shot, the locomotive seems to have some GE influence in its design.

Mike, not influence, it's a 100% pedigree GE. In fact, while many SA locos are locally built under licence, all the Class 35-000 locos were built by GE and imported. Most in-use SA diesel-electrics are GE, except for the Class 34-200, 34-600, 34-800, 35-200, 35-600, 36-200 and 37-000 locos, which are all EMD. The new Class 39-000, of which one has already been delivered, is a Transwerk rebuild on a Class 34-800 frame, which makes it EMD too. (More than you ever wanted to know....)
