For the benefit of our American friends, Autumn (Fall) is when we in Britain suffer a lot of leaf fall which sticks to rails leaving a greasy surface and can make adhesion and braking a lot harder. Several RHTT's (Rail Head Treatment Trains) spend many weeks at this time of the year spraying an abrasive adhesive to increase adhesion, This is a Network Rail train 'topped and tailed' by 1950s Class 20 single-cab locos and operating from its temporary base in Stowmarket and operate on the London-Norwich main line and its branches.

Small world Dave. I live in Ipswich, 200 yards from the line and I've still yet to see one of these trains!
Not fair!
