Was this really as late as 1998? I thought most of the older MLWs were gone by then. Looking over a roster, I found only 1 or 2 left by the end of the MLW era, so seeing 2 on a train would've been rare if it was even possible. Plus, a C630M still with the (much better-looking) original air intakes, wasn't that odd in itself in the 90s?

Triplex, the last of CN's MLW's were retired mid 1998, and at that time all that remained were M-420's. The last six axle MLW in service on CN was 2338 (an HR-616 could have outlived it, but unlikely, and those were BBD units) which was parked at Mac some time in 1997 or early 1998 iirc. Given the dirty zebra paint on this pair I'd rule out 1978, so I'd wager this is 1988. A few C-630M's that had the original air intakes late were 2008, 2009, and 2042, photo's exist of them in 1988, 1990, and 1991 respectively so equipped. If this photo of 2033 is in 1988, that'd be another one late to the party.
