Sad story, but nice shot!

Great photo John, I remember following NWP (SP) trains when there where 6 SD9's and a 100+ cars. What a difference from 15 years ago before this photo.

This is an incrediable shot. The historic locomotives, the plants blowing in the wind, the hills, and all the colors. I am definately going to give your shot a PCA vote. Great work!

I agree with Bill. Nice rural setting.

Sad story. I'm glad that you were able to catch this.

Wow! What a beautiful picture. It really shows the state of America's railroads at the time in a somewhat more picturesque way. This is really a key link missing in developing Northern California and boosting the scenery tourism industry. It will inevitably return.
That's a sad story. I remember the passenger train (for publicity of course) they first ran consisted of a whole lot of Daylight equipment. Of course there were not enough customers at the time (and possibly now). The railway really depends on a passenger train.

Great shot, great reminder of what once was. An SD7, no less! How often were those used on the NWP in the last days?
|
One of the things I was going to put into the comments, but it got too long winded, was that the SP 1519 was not only an SD7, but it had been converted by SP to yard-only service.....notice the small fuel tank underneath. I don't know how much the SP differentiated between SD7's and SD9's, but in the good old days the traffic to and from Willits would be handled by six of these "cadillacs"....and the occasional SD40 or even SD45.

Lovely scenic shot! Even the grass seems to be pointing the way.
|
Congrats on the PC, John. Very pretty shot with a story to tell as well.
|
Pleasing country colors and feel, very relaxing just to look at the shot.
|
How plain the engines look in comparison to today's - "are they the engines or the box the engines came in?"
|
It is reopening again, sorry to disappoint the naysayers :) Work has begun on the south end, with service to resume to Windsor by early next year, and to Willits by the end of next year.
