And with "symbol" freights like this AND Conrail's vaunted Trail Van and MAIL trains being shifted from the "Corridor" to the ex-Lehigh Valley and Reading mains, they gut both of them, ripping up the second main track on the Valley between Edison and Bound Brook and everything but one track on the ex-Reading between Manville and Trenton save a mile long siding in Skillman with manual throw switches used mostly for car storage. They further add nothing to the capacity of the gutted ex-Lehigh Valley west of Manville which had a single siding on over 40 miles of "main" line.
Conrail's operating and infrastructure plans were seemingly completely disconnected.
