When EMD went to the full-height cab sub-base on the SD9/18 models, as illustrated by DMI&R 312, it pushed the cab roof high enough to make the locomotive look a bit awkward. On the SD24 turbo version, the air reservoirs were located on the roof, just aft of the cab, so the height difference wasn't such a distraction. Conversely, the SD24 demonstrator, which had the original, lower SD7/SD9 style sub-base, looked like a hunchback, when its air tanks were placed topside. A very nice roster shot Wade.
