I'm guessing the helper kept pushing wagons into the carnage. Probably still cleaning that one up.

Wow, that's bad what a mess to have to clean up.
Looks like CSX is still doing a bang up job as usual!
Looks like CSX just bought themselves a bridge.

I think the date on this photo is wrong. I know there wasn't snow on the ground September 20th in Kent. Should be November 20th.
This did occur on 11/20/08. A story from the local paper confirmed it. It also noted that the bridge was scheduled to be replaced by 2011, and after a study of its' integrity, following this wreck, it may be replaced in 2009.

thanks Tie guy, didnt catch that. Dont know how but bridge is to open as soon as the sewer line is repaired. Tracks 1&2 are up and running.
Dang that's literally some pretty twisted wreckage. Nice catch.

Those aluminum cars rip just like the beer cans do!!
"Bang up job" is right. Could also be a notch against DPU's used in urban areas perhaps.
None of the trains on that line use DPUs, so the locomotives that you see are probably there to take away the cars that are still standing.
The derailment actually occurred on November 18, believe it or not. The paper is wrong. I had a friend driving by and heard the crew announce the derailment on the scanner at about 3:15 pm on the 18th. Also, the locomotives in site, numbers 480 and 536 were the actual locomotives that were pulling the coal train. The rerailed and cars "still standing", were pulled away by GP38-2 units. Nice photo!

UniCapital Rail Photos i think your friend may have heard something else. This did happen on 11-20-08. I work for the gas utility co and we responded to the scene. We have gas transmission lines that run under the bridge but they were not hurt. The gas smell that we were called out for was the ruptured sewer line.
Koral, I received an email with photos of the derailment from him on the morning of the 19th. He works for CSX. But this is irrelevant. What counts is that they have trains running again, and now have an even more logical excuse to replace the bridge.
