That was a great chase. I was standing about 5 feet to your left. I managed to catch it at Baxter Avenue, Lyndon, LaGrange, Sulphur, Campbellsburg, Turners, English, Sparta, Elliston, Verona, Walton, Independence, Bridge 41, and Latonia. Turkey shoot that day!

Golly, she looks a bit out of place in an eastern setting, who knows when UP will merge or take over either NS or CSX, if they do we might see this scene again. Dare we dream?

There was a reason for the trip from Louisville, Ky. to Cincinnati, Ohio to Ashland, Ky. then to Elkhorn City, Ky. to reach Clinchfield rails. At one time The Clinchfield considered using a larger steamer on their railfan trips. They sent the Passenger F units and the roads President's car to Louisville to pickup Kentucky Railroad museum's ex C & O #2716. The trip from Clinchfields end of track at Elkhorn City, Ky. was C & O to Ashland, Ky. then C & O to Lexington,Ky. and L & N from Lexington, Ky. to Louisville. The C & O 2700 series engines were replaced with smaller power at Lexington, Ky. for the run to Louisville, on trains like The George Washington, due to the tight confines of L & N's tunnel located at Frankfort, Ky. Ironically that return to Elkhorn City would now possible because R.J. Corman has greatly enlarged the tunnel at Frankfort so that his railroad can handle auto rack cars and flat cars with stacked truck frames. Rick Corman used the Frankfort tunnel job as practice for the work now being done for Norfolk Southern. The only little problem is the C & O line from Lexington to Ashland was ripped up years ago.
