Learned about that style locomotive way back in the 80s from a library book. I like it. Think text said something about reverse windshield angle being to minimize distracting nighttime reflections and that boxy nose was filled with cellular crash protection material.

And additionally, think book said they, or at least some others of that general body style, have monomotor bogies with ability to change gear ratios when stopped.
