"What does that big white line under that gate mean? DER"

Why did you blank out their license number?

Great shot George. During my days in train service, I saw this happen once. A guy in a fancy red pick up got under the gate. He backed up just before we got to the crossing. Going past, we could see big gouges in the roof of that fancy pickup. Ouch!

Hopefully, whoever was driving played the lottery after this incident cause it was their lucky day.

I had a pick-up truck with a small ding just above the passenger side door that was the result of a same type of "negative interaction" with crossing gate. To my defense I stopped there to flag the crossing for a hyrail crane that normally does not shunt the rail and activate the gates. With my truck in the wrong spot that was the one time, maybe the only time, the crane managed to shunt the track and lower the gates. As was commented earlier: DER!

My mom did that once. I was a little kid and I think she had already cleared the crossing and that I demanded she back up to make sure we would stop for the train!

I wouldn't be surprised if the person driving had thoughts of suing the railroad, despite the fact he could have ended up much worse.
