As Johnny Most, Former Boston Celtics sportscaster, would report, "We are in the engineer's seat high above riverside." It seems like the Milwaukee Road, being the last transcontinental system built, got stuck with some of the best scenery. Steve this is amazing.

It isn't always the power or the train that makes a great photo, even though the power on this train is special. This would be a great photo without the train, so adding the railroad action above only doubles the greatness of this picture. Thanks Steve!

Certainly deserves the Screeners Choice. PCA from me. Darn, why was I in grad school and making babies in the midwest when I could have been watching and taking train pictures like this. Great shot Steve.

If the Milwaukee still was running with the PCE, I'd move out there in a heartbeat just to shoot it but alas, like every railfan I was born too late. Superb photo.

Great shot! Scenic and historic. Sad also, that the Milwaukee Road failed and the tracks on the Pacific Extension were yanked out. Since I have a couple of Mr. Schmollinger's books ("Tehachapi - Railroading on a Desert Mountain," and "The Feather River Canyon - Union Pacific's Heart of Stone," as well as a number of his photo essays in rail magazines, his photo skill is no surprise to me. Screener's Choice was well-deserved. I'm adding this to my Favorite Photos.

Great shot! From the thumbnail it looked like a shot from the Animas river up at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, but on closer examination, you can tell this was a carefully-planned effort at something authentic, with the feeling like waving goodbye to a good friend.
